Indianapolis Police Releases Critical Incident Video Where An Officer Was Shot

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) shared a critical incident video where an officer and two other people were shot.

The IMPD Northwest District officers responded to an incident on a report that two people were shot on Kentstone Drive in Indianapolis, Indiana on 29th of May.

According to the police, the suspect identified as Keith Allender Jr., 21, who was armed with a handgun offered a man who was his neighbour on Kentstone Drive, some money, which the man refused. During this encounter, the man’s mother arrived at the house accompanied by two children aged three and six.

The suspect left the premises, but quickly returned and shot the man and his mother.

After the shooting, Keith entered his car which was described as a green SUV and left the scene. As he was driving away he intentionally struck a women with his vehicle. Additionally, Keith fired shots at motorists while driving away.

As Allender approached West 62nd Street and Michigan Road, he was faced with an approaching police vehicle. Officer Iversen who was in the vehicle, noticed that the suspect had a gun in his hand.

The suspect then fired multiple shots at the police vehicle. He then exited his vehicle and began firing shots at another patrol car that had approached the suspect vehicle from behind.

Keith then entered his vehicle again and fled the scene, driving along Michigan Road. The pursuit ended on West 30th Street when Keith drove into a close gated area.

At that location, the suspect opened his car door and started firing at police cars who have surrounded him. Five officers discharged their service weapons.

Officer Iverson was shot during the gunfire exchange. Her body armour stopped the penetration of a bullet that hit right in the center of her chest. According to the police, Officer Iverson was taken to the hospital in good condition and was later released.

Keith Allender was charged with 23 charges, including four counts of attempted murder. His jury trial is scheduled for 27th of September.
