A teacher has died after allegedly being raped by her violent boyfriend with a broom handle.

Cleonice Antonio Santos, 48, died in hospital after being raped in Sao Vicente, a coastal municipality in Sao Paulo state in Brazil, on Monday, 15th August.

She reportedly died of septic shock after the broom handle pierced her colon, according to local media.

A medical report reportedly stated that doctors found five litres of pus in her anal cavity and that she was suffering from a pierced colon – the end of the large intestine.

An unnamed female relative told local media: “She was living with him, she was living with death threats and we didn’t know what kind of blackmail he did with her.

“From Saturday 13th August to Sunday 14th August, she was admitted to the emergency room at the hospital. We only found out on Sunday night, because he called us saying that she was not well and would be transferred to the municipal Hospital.”

The boyfriend, named as Manoel Acacio, age not reported, reportedly went on the run after dropping her off at the Sao Vicente Municipal Hospital, according to the victim’s cousin, Luzinete Aragao.

The cause of death was reportedly septic shock caused by Cleonice’s large intestine having been perforated. Doctors performed surgery to try to save her life but their efforts were in vain.

Her wake and funeral took place in Sao Vicente’s Parque Bitaru neighbourhood on Tuesday, 16th August, and she was buried in Sao Vicente Cemetery.

The police investigation into the case is currently ongoing. They are treating the incident as a suspicious death and are currently looking to locate the boyfriend.
