Woman Uses Her Body to Support Child Dangling Above Street From Burglar Bars
A young woman who spotted a child dangling by her neck from window bars climbed up and held on to her from underneath for 20 minutes so she could support her body.
The woman rescuer, who is a mother herself, said she was horrified when she saw the girl dangling by her neck and risking serious injury at the property in Jingzhou, a prefecture-level city in southern Hubei Province in China.
Realising the fire brigade were not yet and nobody in the house seemed to have noticed, she climbed up the side of the building but was unable to go any higher to rescue the child and ended up putting her body underneath the bars to support the child.
The assistance prevented the girl, who had been crying in pain, from injuring herself further, and the woman, identified only by the surname Lee, then stayed there for 20 minutes until two other passersby climbed up the side of the building and freed the child.
Emergency services arrived a short while later and gave the girl a checkup, and confirmed that although shocked she was unharmed.
They also praised the mother for her bravery and endurance in holding on despite being perched perilously over the street to rescue the child.
She said: “As a mother myself, it was an instinctive decision to rush up and save the child. I had to help.”
It is unclear where the girls parents or guardian were at the time the incident happened.
